Construction of Standard Gauge Railway Line in Tanzania

 

Electrified single track railway line that will connect Dar es Salaam at the Indian Ocean and Mwanza at Lake Victoria. The total length of the main line is approx. 1,214 km and is divided into five lots:

  • Lot 1: Dar es Salaam – Morogoro, approx. 205 km of main track and 95 km of sidings, including five stations (a major station in DSM), a marshalling yard, and a dry port.
  • Lot 2: Morogoro – Makutopora, approx. 336 km of main track and 86 km of sidings, including seven stations and four tunnels with a total length of 2.6 km.
  • Lot 3: Makutopora – Tabora, approx. 294 km of main track and 74 km of sidings, including seven stations and three freight yards
  • Lot 4: Tabora – Isaka, approx. 130 km of main track and 35 km of sidings, including 11 stations and a marshalling yard.
  • Lot 5: Isaka – Mwanza, approx. 249 km of main track and 92 km of sidings, including 11 stations and a marshalling yard.

The project is being carried out as a design and build contract.
