Malaba to Kampala Meter Gauge Railway

Through the Uganda Railways Corporation, which serves as the executing agency, the government of Uganda aims to rehabilitate the existing 257 km Malaba–Mukono–Jinja–Malaba metre-gauge railway line. The project includes branch lines to Port Bell and the Kampala–Kyengera section. Components of the project include comprehensive track rehabilitation, the replacement of steel sleepers with concrete sleepers, the procurement of new rolling stock (locomotives, wagons, and coaches) and workshop equipment for the URC, support for institutional reforms and skills development in the railway sector, and efforts to empower women along the railway line.
