20230626 132031

The Cairo – Beni Suef railway is a non-electrified 125 km double-track railway and connects Cairo, the capital of Egypt, with Beni Suef in the south. The current signalling system, which was installed in 1990, is being replaced by an Electronic Interlocking System (EIS) as part of a modernisation project, with Central Traffic Control (CTC) in Cairo. The project will be executed under a design, supply, and installation contract and consist of 19 interlockings of the signalling system of the Cairo–Beni Suef railway. It encompasses signalling, the control centre, telecommunications, power supply, cabling, buildings, civil construction, and track rehabilitation works.

Signalling component:

  • New automatic block systems (with contraflow signalling) and colour light signals.
  • Implementation of track circuits.
  • New Electronic Interlocking Systems (EIS) according to the new track layout documents.
  • Renewal of all signalling wayside installations.
  • Installation of point motors for all switches controlled by the CTC.
  • New automatic level crossings (separate from the civil works).
  • Contraflow signalling implemented across the entire line.
  • ATP system.
